What a great performance by the Falcons. They showed a great deal of heart in coming from behind to send Matt Lefeld and Martin Samarco out in style on Senior Day. This game showed that they truly can beat anyone if they play well and keep mistakes to a mimimum. Junior guard Ryne Hamblet had another great game--he was absolutely on fire, scoring 28 points including several clutch free throws in the final minute to help seal the win. Otis Polk was also part of a key defensive stretch where the Falcons held the RedHawks without a field goal for several minutes as they overtook them and then built a lead that Miami couldn't overcome. Otis was credited with three blocked shots, but I counted at least four myself. He was huge, and it was great to see. If this was my last time to see the Falcons play this year, it was a great game to go out on.

It was also great to get some momentum heading into the MAC Tournament, which begins on Wednesday. It's the longest of long shots that the Falcons, the #12 seed, will win it, but I'll be damned if I'm counting them out. If they play the way they did against Miami, they'll at least put some fear into a team or two. If they should make it into the semifinal round on Friday evening, I'll be there for that game. They have two games to win before then, though. They start on Wednesday afternoon with Ohio, the only team to dominate them twice this season. It's a tough draw for the first round, but if they can knock them off, they already know they can play with anyone else in the field. I'd love to make the trip to Cleveland to see them play at least one more time (and hopefully twice), so I'll be keeping an eye on the score while I'm at work on Wednesday afternoon.
