I arrived at this game at halftime. I was at work until just past 7:00, so I decided to drop into Anderson Arena on my way home to check out the MAC East-leading Falcons take on the MAC West-leading Cardinals. The Falcons cruised to victory--it was not even as close as the final score would indicate. BGSU was up by 8, 39-31, when I arrived at halftime, and they inched the lead higher and higher through the second half. Ball State made it a little closer after the Falcons relaxed down the stretch, but they never posed a serious threat. As interesting as the close of the game was the drama in the stands across the court from me. Someone waving "the finger" in the air caught my eye, and I looked up to see a couple of Ball State fans yelling animatedly at a couple of BGSU fans, who were simply gesturing at the scoreboard. One BSU fan, who looked to be a student, had to be restrained from going after one BGSU fan, who looked to be in his sixties at least. After a visit from a campus cop, this young man calmed down considerably. I was surprised that the BGSU police, who have been known to be on a hair-trigger in the past, didn't escort him out, but obviously they only take such hasty action against their own fans. The game went on without incident after that, as it was readily apparent that Ball State was not going to make a miracle comeback against a tough, talented, and battle-tested Falcon squad in the closing seconds. The only disappointment is that I didn't get my free fries--McDonald's offers a promotion where the cheerleaders give out coupons good for free fries anytime the Falcons score 85 or more and win, but they were nowhere to be seen after the game tonight, despite the announcement after the game that the coupons would be distributed. Seeing as how I have several of those coupons already from other games this season and never use them, I think I'll probably survive.
